Phone numbers look wrong in Excel? Excel turns numbers that start with + or 0 into math when it opens a CSV. Use the Excel (.xlsx) file — it keeps them as you typed them.
About the CSV to VCF converter
You have your contacts in a spreadsheet — from Excel, Google Sheets, an old phone or a club member list — and you want them on your phone. Phones do not import spreadsheets. They import VCF files (also called vCards). This tool turns your CSV or Excel file into one VCF file with all the contacts inside.
You do not need to rename your columns. The tool reads the column names — "First name", "Mobile", "E-mail Address", "Phone 1 - Value", even "Vorname", "Teléfono" or "이름" — and matches each one to the right contact field. You check the matches, look at the preview cards, and download.
Features
- CSV and Excel — reads .csv, .txt, .xlsx and .xls files, or rows you paste from a spreadsheet.
- Columns matched for you — knows the column names of Google Contacts, Outlook and many languages; change any match with one menu.
- Smart reading — finds the separator (comma, semicolon or tab) and the text encoding by itself, so accents and other alphabets stay right.
- Many numbers per person — mobile, home, work and fax numbers, several emails, a home and a work address.
- Preview cards — see the first contacts exactly as they will look, with the total count.
- vCard 3.0 or 4.0 — 3.0 works with iPhone, Android, Google and Outlook; 4.0 for newer apps.
- One file or a ZIP — all contacts in one .vcf, or one .vcf per contact for old Outlook.
How to use it
- Drop your CSV or Excel file on the box, or paste the rows
- Check the box "The first row has the column names" if your file has a header row
- Look at Match your columns and change any match that is wrong, or set a column to Skip
- Check the preview cards and the number of contacts
- Press Download VCF file
- Open the file on your phone, or import it into iCloud, Google Contacts or Outlook (steps below)
How to import the VCF file
iPhone (with the file on the phone): send the .vcf to yourself by email or AirDrop, or save it in the Files app. Tap the file, then tap Add All Contacts.
iPhone (with iCloud.com): on a computer, sign in at iCloud.com and open Contacts. Click the + button, choose Import Contact and pick the .vcf file. The contacts appear on every iPhone that uses iCloud Contacts.
Android and Google Contacts: go to contacts.google.com, click Import, then Select file, and choose the .vcf. On the phone you can also open the Google Contacts app, tap Fix & manage and then Import from file. On a Samsung phone: Contacts → menu → Manage contacts → Import contacts.
Outlook: classic Outlook for Windows has File → Open & Export → Import/Export → Import a VCARD file (.vcf), but it reads only the first contact in the file. Choose One .vcf file per contact (ZIP) for it. Outlook on the web and the new Outlook import CSV files, not VCF.
Which columns are matched
| Your column | Contact field |
|---|---|
| Name, Full name | Full name |
| First name, Given Name, Vorname | First name |
| Last name, Surname, Family Name | Last name |
| Mobile, Cell, Mobile Phone | Mobile phone |
| Home Phone, Business Phone | Home or work phone |
| Email, E-mail Address, E-mail 1 - Value | |
| Company, Organization | Company |
| Street, City, State, Zip, Country | Address |
| Birthday, Website, Notes | Birthday, website, notes |
Google Contacts files keep their "Mobile", "Home" or "Work" labels. Columns that the tool does not know are set to Skip — set them to a field yourself if you want them.
Frequently asked questions
How do I import contacts from Excel to my iPhone?
Drop the Excel file here and download the VCF file. Then email or AirDrop the file to your iPhone and tap Add All Contacts, or import it at iCloud.com under Contacts → + → Import Contact.
Can I import a CSV file straight into my iPhone?
No. The iPhone Contacts app and iCloud.com import only VCF (vCard) files. That is why you convert the CSV to VCF first.
Why does Outlook import only one contact?
Classic Outlook for Windows reads only the first card in a VCF file with many contacts. Choose One .vcf file per contact (ZIP), unzip it, and import the files you need.
Are accents and other alphabets kept?
Yes. The VCF file is saved in UTF-8, so names like José, Zoë or 김민준 stay right. If your CSV shows strange letters here, it was saved in an old encoding — save it again in Excel as CSV UTF-8.
Is my contact list uploaded?
No. The file is read and the VCF is made on your device, in the browser. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Good to know
- Empty rows are left out. Rows without a name, phone or email are left out too, and the tool tells you how many.
- Birthdays are saved as year-month-day. A date like 03/04/1990 is read as day/month or month/day from the other dates in the column.
- A phone column without a type ("Phone") is saved as a mobile number.
- Photos are not part of a CSV file, so the contacts have no pictures.
