About the VCF to CSV converter

A VCF file (vCard) is how phones and mail apps share contacts. Your iPhone, Android phone, Google Contacts and Outlook can all save one. But a VCF file is hard to read: open it in Excel and you see a long list of lines like "TEL;TYPE=CELL" instead of a table.

This tool turns the VCF file into a clean table: one row per contact, with the name, every phone number, every email, the company, the address, the birthday and the notes in their own columns. Save it as a CSV file, or as a real Excel (.xlsx) file.

It reads old and new files: vCard 2.1 from old Android phones, 3.0 from iPhone and Google, and 4.0. Everything happens in your browser — the contacts are never uploaded.

Features

  • All vCard versions — 2.1, 3.0 and 4.0, with one contact or thousands in one file.
  • Old Android files too — reads the "quoted-printable" text that old phones use for accents and other alphabets.
  • Three CSV layouts — Simple for reading in Excel, Google Contacts, or Outlook, with the column names each app expects.
  • Every number kept — mobile, home and work phones, several emails and addresses each get their own column.
  • Excel file as well — a real .xlsx where phone numbers keep their + and leading 0.
  • Made for Excel — UTF-8 with BOM, and a semicolon option for Excel in Europe.
  • Preview table — see the first rows before you download.

How to use it

  • Drop your .vcf file on the box, or paste the vCard text
  • Pick a CSV layout: Simple, Google Contacts or Outlook
  • Pick the separator your Excel expects (comma in most countries)
  • Check the rows in the preview table
  • Press Download CSV, or Download Excel (.xlsx)

How to get a VCF file from your phone

iPhone: open the Contacts app and tap Lists at the top left. Touch and hold a list, such as All iCloud, then tap Export and save the file or send it to yourself. (This needs iOS 16 or newer.) On a computer you can also sign in at iCloud.com, open Contacts, select the contacts and choose Export vCard.

Android and Google: go to contacts.google.com, click Export, choose vCard (for iOS Contacts) and click Export. In the Google Contacts app on the phone: Fix & manage → Export to file. On a Samsung phone: Contacts → menu → Manage contacts → Export contacts.

Outlook: Outlook can export contacts as CSV by itself (People → Manage contacts → Export contacts), so you may not need this tool. If someone sent you a .vcf card by email, save the attachment and drop it here.

SimpleReading and printing in Excel or Google Sheets
Google ContactsImporting into contacts.google.com
OutlookImporting into Outlook (CSV import)

Simple has short column names: Name, First name, Last name, Company, Phone 1, Phone 2, Email 1 … Only the columns that have data are written.

Google Contacts uses Google's own column names, like "Phone 1 - Label" and "Phone 1 - Value", so Google keeps Mobile, Home and Work.

Outlook uses Outlook's names, like "Mobile Phone", "Business Phone" and "E-mail Address". Outlook has a fixed number of these columns (for example three emails). If a contact has more, the tool tells you how many were left out.

Frequently asked questions

How do I open a VCF file in Excel?

Drop the VCF file here and press Download Excel (.xlsx). Open that file in Excel. Each contact is one row, and each phone number and email has its own column.

How do I export my iPhone contacts to Excel?

Export the contacts from your iPhone as a VCF file (Contacts → Lists → touch and hold a list → Export), or from iCloud.com. Then drop the file here and download the Excel file.

Why do phone numbers look strange in the CSV in Excel?

When Excel opens a CSV file, it treats "+49 151 …" as a math formula and drops the leading 0 from "0151 …". The CSV file itself is correct. Use the .xlsx file, where all values are kept as text.

Why are the contact photos missing?

A CSV or Excel file can only hold text, so photos are left out. The tool tells you how many contacts had a photo.

Is my VCF file uploaded?

No. The file is read and the CSV is made on your device, in the browser. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Good to know

  • Birthdays are written as year-month-day, like 1990-05-17. A birthday without a year looks like --05-17.
  • A comma CSV with BOM opens well in most Excel versions. If all values land in one column, choose the semicolon separator.
  • Custom phone labels from iPhone files ("item1" labels) are read too.
