About this tool

This free Merge Excel Files tool combines several spreadsheets into a single workbook. Drop in as many .xlsx, .xls, .ods or .csv files as you like and download one tidy file — no copy-and-paste between windows, no formulas.

Everything runs in your browser. Your files are never uploaded, which matters when you are consolidating sales figures, payroll data or customer lists.

Two ways to combine

Pick whichever matches the job:

• Stack all rows into one sheet — the classic consolidation. The rows of every file are appended one after another, and Remove duplicate header rows keeps the column titles once instead of repeating them between each file. Use this when all the files have the same columns: twelve monthly exports becoming one yearly sheet.
• One tab per file — each file keeps its own worksheet inside a single workbook, named after the file. Use this when the files are different reports that simply belong together.

Know where every row came from

Tick Add a column with the source file name and each row carries the name of the file it came from. After stacking twelve months of exports you can still filter, sort or pivot by month — the one thing that is normally lost when you paste sheets together by hand.

How to use it

• Put them in order — use the arrows; the files are merged top to bottom
• Set the options — leave *Remove duplicate header rows* ticked so the titles appear once, and add the source column if you want it
