About the oven temperature converter
A recipe from another country often uses another oven: Fahrenheit in the US, Celsius in most of the world, gas marks in older British recipes, and a fan (convection) oven that runs hotter than a normal one. This converter gives you all of them at once.
Switch to Oven recipe → air fryer to get the air fryer temperature and time for any oven recipe.
How to use it
- Type the temperature from the recipe
- Choose its unit: °F, °C, °C fan oven or gas mark
- Read the temperature for your oven
- For the air fryer, choose Oven recipe → air fryer and add the oven time

Fan and convection ovens
A fan moves the hot air around, so food cooks faster. The usual rule:
- European recipes: fan oven = 20 °C lower than a conventional oven (180 °C → 160 °C fan).
- US recipes: convection = 25 °F lower (350 °F → 325 °F), or the same temperature and a shorter time.
If a recipe already says "fan" or "convection", do not lower it again.
Oven to air fryer
An air fryer is a small, powerful fan oven. As a starting point:
- Lower the temperature by about 25 °F (15 °C)
- Cut the time by about 20%
- Shake the basket or turn the food halfway, and check a few minutes early
A recipe at 400 °F for 20 minutes becomes about 375 °F for 16 minutes in an air fryer.
Frequently asked questions
What is 350 °F in Celsius?
177 °C — recipes usually round it to 180 °C (160 °C in a fan oven, gas mark 4).
What is 180 °C in Fahrenheit?
356 °F — usually written as 350 °F.
What gas mark is 200 °C?
Gas mark 6 (about 400 °F).
How do I convert Fahrenheit to Celsius?
Subtract 32, then multiply by 5 and divide by 9. 400 °F: (400 − 32) × 5 ÷ 9 = 204 °C.
Do I need to change the time for a fan oven?
At the lower temperature, the time usually stays about the same. At the same temperature, check 10–15% earlier.
