How to convert degrees Celsius to degrees Fahrenheit
Celsius and Fahrenheit do not start at the same zero: water freezes at 0°C = 32°F and boils at 100°C = 212°F. So you multiply and add — a plain multiplication gives the wrong answer.
Formula: °F = °C × 9/5 + 32
Example: 20°C × 9/5 = 36, + 32 = 68°F

Temperatures worth knowing
- Room temperature: 20–22°C = 68–72°F
- Body temperature: 37°C = 98.6°F; a fever starts around 38°C = 100.4°F
- Oven: 180°C = 356°F (often written 350°F), 200°C = 392°F (400°F)
- −40°C = −40°F — the one point where both scales meet

Frequently asked questions
What is the formula for Celsius to Fahrenheit?
Multiply by 9/5 (or 1.8) and add 32. 25°C × 1.8 = 45, + 32 = 77°F.
Is there a quick way to convert C to F?
Double it and add 30: 20°C → 40 + 30 = 70°F (exact: 68°F). Good enough for the weather, not for baking.
What is 180°C in Fahrenheit?
356°F. Recipes usually round it to 350°F.
