About the HWP to PDF Converter

HWP is the document format of Hancom Office (한글), the word processor used across Korean government offices, schools and companies. If someone sends you a .hwp file and you do not own Hancom Office, you normally cannot open it at all.

This tool reads the file in your browser and rebuilds it as a PDF you can open, print and share anywhere — on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android or iPhone. It handles both the classic .hwp format and the newer XML-based .hwpx.

Your document is never uploaded. Everything — unpacking, decompressing, laying out and writing the PDF — happens on your own device, which matters for the contracts, tax forms and personal records that so often arrive as HWP files.

What gets converted

• All the text, with its font size, bold, italic and color
• Tables — including merged cells, column widths and cell borders, which is what most Korean forms are made of
• Images embedded in the document
• Page setup — the original paper size, orientation and margins are reproduced
• Paragraph alignment — left, right, centered and justified
• Multi-section documents, converted in order

What to expect

This is an independent reader, not Hancom Office, so it is fair to say what it does *not* do:

• Line breaks may fall differently. The PDF is drawn with the Korean fonts installed on your computer, not the exact fonts named in the document, so a line can wrap one word earlier or later.
• Page headers and footers are left out. Footnotes and text boxes are kept, but they appear in the flow of the page — a footnote sits just under the paragraph that refers to it, rather than at the foot of the page.
• Password-protected and distribution (배포용) documents cannot be read — their contents are encrypted. Save an unprotected copy from Hancom Office first.
• Pages are placed in the PDF as high-resolution images, so the text is not selectable. That is what makes Hangul, Hanja and every other script render correctly without asking you to download a 5 MB font.

For reading, printing, archiving and emailing a HWP file to someone who cannot open it, that is exactly what you need.
