About the Break Reminder
This free Break Reminder sends you a browser notification at the interval you choose, so you never forget to take a break, stand up, walk and stretch during long hours at your desk. Pick what you want to be reminded to do, set how often, and click Start reminders — the notifications keep arriving on time.
It runs entirely in your browser. There's no app to install, no sign-up, and nothing is uploaded.
Take a break, stand, walk or stretch — you choose
One reminder doesn't fit everyone, so pick the nudge you need:
- Take a break — step away from the screen for a moment
- Stand up — get out of your chair and move a little
- Walk — take a short stroll to get your blood flowing
- Stretch — roll your shoulders, neck and back
- Rest your eyes — the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds
- Posture check — sit up straight and relax your shoulders
- Custom — type your own reminder message
You can change the reminder and the interval at any time while it's running.

Why taking breaks and moving matters
Sitting for hours is hard on your body, and it's easy to lose track of time when you're focused. Regular breaks and movement help you:
- Beat "sitting disease" — reduce the health risks of prolonged sitting
- Ease back, neck and shoulder pain — from hunching over a keyboard
- Protect your eyes — less eye strain and screen fatigue with the 20-20-20 rule
- Boost focus and energy — short movement breaks reset your attention
- Improve circulation and posture — a quick stand or stretch every hour makes a difference
Popular reminder routines
Not sure how often to move? These are common routines you can set up in seconds:
- Every 30 minutes: stand up — a simple sit-stand rhythm for desk workers
- Every hour: take a walk — get up and move at least once an hour
- Every 20 minutes: rest your eyes — the classic 20-20-20 rule for screen time
- Pomodoro-style breaks — pair a 25-minute focus timer with a stretch reminder
- Every 45–60 minutes: stretch — loosen up before stiffness sets in
