About Add Text to Photo
Upload a picture, type your words, and drag them wherever they look best. Choose the font, the size, the colour, an outline, a shadow — and save the result at the full size of your photo.
No sign-up, no watermark, and nothing is uploaded: your picture is opened, drawn on and saved entirely inside your own browser.
It saves the real picture, not the preview
This is the part a lot of free tools get wrong. Some of them shrink your photo to fit the editor and then hand you back that small version with the text on it.
Here the text is drawn onto your picture at its own size — up to 2400 pixels on the long side — so a photo that arrives at 2400 × 1600 leaves at 2400 × 1600. What you download is the photograph you gave it, with words on top.
Making text readable on a photo
A photograph is a terrible background for text: it is busy, and it changes from light to dark across the frame. Three things fix it, and you have all three:
- An outline in the opposite colour. It is what makes subtitles legible on any film, and it is on by default — the tool starts with hot pink text and a white outline, which cuts through almost any photograph. Black text with a white outline, or the classic white-on-black, work just as well.
- A soft shadow. Gentler than an outline, and enough on a plain sky or a wall.
- A panel behind the text. The most reliable of the three: a solid block in any colour, at the opacity you set. Use it when the picture underneath is genuinely busy.
If you can still barely read it, the answer is usually a bigger size rather than a heavier effect.

Text in front, or behind?
This tool puts your words in front of everything in the picture, which is what you want most of the time.
If you want the opposite — words that run *behind* the person or object, so part of them disappears and comes out the other side — that is Text Behind Image. It finds your subject and slips the text between them and the background.
Good to know
- PNG keeps the picture exactly as you see it. JPG makes a much smaller file and is what most social sites prefer.
- Photos larger than 2400 pixels on the long side are worked on at 2400 so the tool stays quick.
- The size is set as a share of the picture height, so the same setting looks the same on a phone snapshot and a camera file.
- Fonts come from your own device. Someone on another computer may see a slightly different face in the editor — but the downloaded picture is fixed, because the text is drawn into it.

How to use it
- Upload a photo — click the box or drop a file onto it
- Type your text in the box on the left; press Enter for a second line
- Drag the words on the picture to where you want them
- Set the size and colour, and leave the outline on unless the background is plain
- Turn on the panel behind the text if the photo is busy
- Press Download PNG — or JPG for a smaller file
