About the goal tracker
It is easy to forget a New Year's resolution after a few busy weeks — most of all when it lives only in your head. This printable puts them on paper, where you see them. It has three pages:
- Your goals — a big title like "My goals for 2027", and one box for each goal with three lines to fill in: Why it matters to me, My first step and By when.
- Month by month — a landscape page with your goals down the side and the 12 months across the top. Colour a box each month you worked on the goal. A row of coloured boxes is a great reason to keep going.
- Looking back — four questions for the end of the year: *What went well this year? What was hard, and what did I learn? What am I proud of? What do I want next year?*
It is made for New Year's resolutions, but it works for any 12 months — a school year, a birthday year or a fresh start in June. Just choose the First month.

The example goals, made measurable
A goal is easier to track when it has a number. The example goals show how a big goal becomes a small monthly step:
| Goal | Per month or week | For the whole of 2027 |
|---|---|---|
| Read 12 books | 1 book a month | 12 books |
| Walk 8,000 steps a day | 56,000 steps a week | 2,920,000 steps (365 days) |
| Learn to cook 10 new dishes | 1 new dish about every 5 weeks | 10 dishes |
| Save for a holiday | Write the amount in My first step | — use the Savings Goal Calculator |
In the Month by month page, colour the box for January when you finished your book, walked most days or cooked a new dish. Some empty boxes are normal — the goal is to keep coming back.
Tips for goals that last
- Keep it short. 3 to 5 goals are easier to follow than 8.
- Make it clear. "Walk 8,000 steps a day" is easier to check than "move more".
- Write the first step. A small action you can do this week, like "buy walking shoes".
- Hang it up. Put the tracker on the fridge or next to your desk.
- Check it monthly. Pick a day — the 1st of each month — to colour the boxes.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use it for New Year's resolutions?
Yes — that is what it is made for. From October on, the Year is already set to next year, and the First month is January.
Does it have to start in January?
No. Choose any First month. The tracker then shows 12 months from there, for example September to August for a school year.
How many goals can I add?
Up to 8. With fewer goals, each box on the first page is bigger, so you have more room to write.
Can I print only the tracker page?
Not on its own — the goals page is always first. Untick Add an end-of-year review page for a 2-page PDF, then print only page 2 if you want.
Is this good for kids?
Yes. Use simple goals like "Read every night" and a fun Heading style and Colours. Kids enjoy colouring the boxes.
Is it free?
Yes. The PDF is made in your browser, and nothing you type is uploaded.
