About Rain Sounds
This page plays rain sounds: a soft, steady rain that rises and falls a little, like rain on a window. Press Play and it runs until you stop it — for sleep, for study, or just to relax.
Rain is one of the most popular sounds for sleep and focus. It is steady, it has no words and no tune, and it covers the sounds you cannot control: traffic, neighbours, a TV, an office.
The rain is made live in your browser from shaped noise, not from a recording. So it starts at once, it never loops, and there is no thunder, no birds and no voice to surprise you at 3 a.m.
Features
- Rain first — the page opens on rain, ready to play
- Five other sounds — brown, pink and white noise, ocean waves and a fan, one tap away
- Sleep timer — stop after 15, 30, 60 or 120 minutes, 3 hours or 8 hours
- Never loops — the rain is made as you listen, so there is no repeat to notice
- No thunder, no surprises — just steady rain
- Soft fade — the sound fades in and out
- Remembers your settings — your sound and volume are saved in this browser
- Free and private — no sign-up, no download, no ads in the sound
Why rain sounds help
Rain does two useful things. First, it covers other sounds. A sudden noise is easier to ignore when there is a steady sound under it. Second, it is easy to stop noticing. After a few minutes, your brain treats it as background, and you forget it is there.
Real rain is close to pink noise: it is softer in the high notes than plain white noise. That is why it sounds gentle, not harsh, even when it covers a lot.
Many people also find rain calming in itself. It feels like a reason to stay inside, under a blanket, with a book.
Which sound when?
This player has six sounds. Rain is a good start for most people, but try the others too.
| Sound | What it is like | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Rain | soft, steady rain with a slow rise and fall | sleep, reading, relaxing |
| Brown noise | a deep rumble, like a far waterfall | sleep, long focus sessions |
| Pink noise | even and natural, between rain and brown | study, sleep |
| White noise | bright hiss, covers voices best | loud offices, short focus |
| Ocean waves | slow waves, one about every 11 seconds | relaxing, falling asleep |
| Fan | low hum with a soft flutter | people who sleep with a fan at home |
If rain feels too bright for you, try brown noise. If you want something that changes more, try ocean waves.
Tips for sleep, study and relaxing
- For sleep: set Stop after to 30 or 60 minutes if you only need help falling asleep, or to 8 hours for the whole night.
- For study: play it at a low volume before you start, so you stop noticing it before the work begins. It covers small sounds that pull your attention away.
- For relaxing: pair it with a few minutes of slow breathing, or a book and no phone.
- Keep the volume low. You will listen for a long time. If you can hear a voice but cannot follow the words, the volume is right.
- Keep this tab open. You can switch tabs or apps, but closing the page stops the rain. Some phones pause web audio when the screen locks — keep the screen on, or plug the phone in.
- Babies: keep it quiet and put the speaker away from the crib.
How to use it
- Rain is already picked — press Play
- Move the Volume slider to a soft, comfortable level
- Set Stop after if you want it to end by itself — 8 hours covers a whole night
- Tap another sound (brown noise, waves, fan…) any time to switch
- Press Stop when you are done
Frequently asked questions
Are rain sounds good for sleep?
Many people find they help. Steady rain covers sudden noises, so they are less likely to wake you, and it is easy to stop noticing. Keep the volume low, and use the timer if you do not want it all night.
Can I play rain sounds for 8 hours?
Yes. Set Stop after to 8 hours, or to Never to keep it going. Keep this tab open, and on a phone keep the screen on if the sound stops when it locks.
Is there thunder?
No. This is steady rain only, with no thunder, birds or voices. Nothing sudden will wake you.
Does the rain loop?
No. The rain is made live in your browser, so it never repeats. Recorded tracks loop every few minutes, and you can start to hear the join.
Rain sounds or white noise — which is better for focus?
White noise covers voices best, so it can be better in a loud office. Rain is softer and more pleasant for long sessions. Try both here — one tap switches.
Does it use mobile data?
Only to open the page. The rain itself is made on your device, so nothing streams while it plays.
