About the Greek keyboard
The Greek alphabet has 24 letters — and modern Greek words carry an accent mark (tonos: ά έ ή ί ό ύ ώ) on the stressed vowel. Typing both needs a Greek keyboard, or this page.
Click the letters on screen, or type on your normal keyboard: each key gives the Greek letter in the same place on a Greek keyboard. The accent keys work like on a real Greek keyboard: press the accent first, then the vowel.
How to use it
- Click the letters on the on-screen keyboard, or type on your own keyboard — A gives α, B gives β, D gives δ… No need to click the text box first, and the matching on-screen key lights up
- Hold Shift (or use Caps Lock) for capital letters
- For an accent, press ; first, then the vowel: ; + α = ά
- For a diaeresis, press Shift + ; first, then ι or υ: ϊ ϋ
- The W key gives the final sigma ς; S gives σ
- Click Copy and paste the text anywhere, or Search Google / Translate straight away
Where the letters are
- Top row: ; ς ε ρ τ υ θ ι ο π
- Middle row: α σ δ φ γ η ξ κ λ ΄
- Bottom row: ζ χ ψ ω β ν μ
Most letters sit on the English letter that sounds like them (α on A, β on B, γ on G…). Each key also shows the English letter, so the layout is easy to learn.
