When is Valentine's Day?
Valentine's Day is always on February 14. It is named after Saint Valentine, a Christian martyr of the 3rd century. The link with love came much later: in the 1300s, the English poet Geoffrey Chaucer wrote about birds choosing their mates on "Saint Valentine's day". By the 1700s, people in England were sending each other love notes on February 14, and in the 1840s Esther Howland began selling some of the first mass-made valentine cards in the US.
The date is fixed, but the weekday changes each year. A weekend Valentine's Day means busy restaurants; a weekday one often means dinner on the Friday or Saturday before.

2028 and 2032 are leap years, so Valentine's Day jumps two weekdays in the year after (2029 and 2033).
