About the New Year countdown
How long until New Year? This page shows it live, to the second: days, hours, minutes and seconds until midnight on New Year's Eve. It uses the clock on your own phone or computer, so it ends at midnight where you are.
It is made for the party. Fireworks burst across the board, the last 10 seconds fill the screen so everyone can shout along, and at midnight it says "Happy New Year!" with a big fireworks show. Press Full screen and put it on the TV.
Features
- Live countdown — days, hours, minutes and seconds to midnight, updated every second
- Big 10-second finish — the last seconds are shown huge, one number at a time
- Fireworks — rockets burst on the board, and many more at midnight (you can turn them off)
- Other time zones — count down to midnight in New York, London, Sydney, Tokyo or UTC
- Six styles — Midnight gold, Champagne, Neon party, Times Square, Confetti and Minimal
- Full screen and Keep the screen on — for a TV, a projector or a laptop on the table
- Sound — a beep for each of the last 10 seconds and a short fanfare at midnight, if you turn it on
- Days left in the year — how many days are still to come in this year
Six styles
- Midnight gold — a starry navy sky with gold numbers
- Champagne — soft gold with bubbles and elegant serif numbers
- Neon party — glowing pink and blue, like a club
- Times Square — dark city night with bright yellow LED-style numbers
- Confetti — purple and pink with confetti and white number tiles
- Minimal — plain and clean, in your page's light or dark colours
Each style has its own firework colours. Your style and settings are remembered on this device.
New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, 2026–2032
New Year's Day is always January 1. The party is the night before, on December 31.
| New Year's Eve | Weekday | New Year's Day | Weekday |
|---|---|---|---|
| December 31, 2026 | Thursday | January 1, 2027 | Friday |
| December 31, 2027 | Friday | January 1, 2028 | Saturday |
| December 31, 2028 | Sunday | January 1, 2029 | Monday |
| December 31, 2029 | Monday | January 1, 2030 | Tuesday |
| December 31, 2030 | Tuesday | January 1, 2031 | Wednesday |
| December 31, 2031 | Wednesday | January 1, 2032 | Thursday |

The countdown works out the next January 1 by itself. On New Year's Day it shows the greeting all day, and on January 2 it starts counting to the next year.

Frequently asked questions
How long is it until New Year?
The big numbers at the top of this page show it, live. They count to midnight on December 31 in your own time zone.
Does the countdown use my time zone?
Yes. It uses the clock of your own computer or phone, so it ends at midnight where you are. You can also pick midnight in New York, London, Sydney, Tokyo or UTC.
What happens at midnight?
The last 10 seconds are shown huge, one number at a time. At midnight the page says "Happy New Year!", the fireworks get much bigger, and a short fanfare plays if sound is on. The greeting stays all day on January 1.
Can I show it on a TV or projector?
Yes. Press Full screen. The four numbers fit on one row on any screen, and "Keep the screen on" stops the screen from going dark while the countdown is showing.
Why is there no sound?
Browsers only play sound after you touch the page. Tick "Sound at the big moment" — you will hear a short chime to show that it works.
How many days are left in the year?
The line under the countdown shows it, for example "64 days left in 2026". Today is not counted. On December 31 it says it is the last day of the year.
Do I need to keep the page open?
Yes, keep the tab open. Nothing is installed and nothing is uploaded; it all runs in your browser.
