About the Christmas countdown
How many days until Christmas? This page answers it live, to the second — days, hours, minutes and seconds until Christmas Day, using the clock on your own device, so it is right wherever you are in the world.
For children there is the number that really matters: how many sleeps are left. And with falling snow and full screen, it looks great on a classroom board, a TV or an office screen all through December.
How to use it
- Open the page — the countdown starts by itself, there is nothing to set
- Pick a style: Winter night, Santa, Christmas tree, Candy cane, Gingerbread or Santa's sleigh
- Choose Christmas Day or Christmas Eve (24 December, 6 pm — when many families open their presents)
- Turn the falling snow on or off
- Press Full screen to show it on a big screen; press Esc to go back
Six styles
- Winter night — a deep blue sky with a moon, a snowman and a string of twinkling lights
- Santa — Christmas red with white fur trim, a smiling Santa and a pile of presents
- Christmas tree — dark green with a big tree, a golden star and twinkling baubles
- Candy cane — a red-and-white striped frame with bold red numbers
- Gingerbread — warm cookie-brown with iced number tiles and a gingerbread man
- Santa's sleigh — a starry night with a full moon and Santa's sleigh flying past
Each style has its own snow colour, and they all work in full screen. Your style is remembered on this device.
Sleeps, days and the big day
- Days, hours, minutes, seconds — the exact time left, updated every second
- Sleeps — how many nights are left before Christmas morning. On Christmas Eve it says "only 1 more sleep"
- On Christmas Day the page says "Merry Christmas!" all day
- From 26 December it starts counting to next Christmas

How many days are left until Christmas?
The big number at the top of this page shows it, live. It counts to 25 December at midnight, in your own time zone.
How many sleeps until Christmas?
The line under the countdown shows the number of sleeps — the nights left before Christmas morning. It changes every day at midnight.
Can I count down to Christmas Eve instead?
Yes. Choose "Christmas Eve" — it counts to 24 December at 6 pm, when many families in Europe open their presents.
Does it work in my time zone?
Yes. It uses the clock of your own computer or phone, so the countdown ends at midnight where you are.
What happens after Christmas?
On Christmas Day the page wishes you a Merry Christmas. From 26 December it counts down to next year's Christmas.
