About the Gantt chart maker
A Gantt chart shows a project as bars on a calendar: one row per task, from the day it starts to the day it ends. One look tells you what happens when, what overlaps, and how long the whole project takes.
Most Gantt tools want an account, a subscription or a big spreadsheet. Here you just type your tasks, one per line, and the chart is drawn as you type. Group tasks into phases, mark milestones, show how far along each task is, and let tasks start after another one — the dates follow by themselves. Pick one of ten styles, add Start, End and Days columns, and show the chart fullscreen in a meeting.
How to use it
- Type one task per line: Task | start | length — for example Research | 2026-11-02 | 5d
- Start a phase with a line that ends in a colon, like Design:
- Use after Research as the start to begin the day after another task ends
- Add a fourth part like 60% to show progress, or write milestone as the length
- Pick a style, then the time scale, the colours and the image width
- Click Download PNG or Download SVG — or Fullscreen to show it on a projector or a big screen
Writing your tasks
- Start — a date (2026-11-02, 2026/11/02 or 02.11.2026) or after and the name of another task. The other task can be anywhere in the list
- End or length — a date, or a length: 5d is 5 days, 2w is 2 weeks. A 5-day task that starts on Monday ends on Friday
- Milestone — write milestone as the length to draw a diamond on one day, like a launch or a deadline
- Done % — optional: 100% fills the bar, 60% fills most of it
- Phases — a line ending in : starts a phase. Each phase gets a thin bar over its whole time and, by default, its own colour
Change one date and every task that starts "after" it moves too — handy when a project slips.
Ten styles
- Classic — light bars with the done part in full colour
- Modern — round, solid bars and a clean grid
- Minimal — thin bars and almost no lines
- Corporate — a dark blue header and square bars, like a report
- Dark — glowing bars on navy, for dark slides
- Outline — coloured outlines; easy to print
- Pastel — soft colours on warm paper
- Blueprint — white dashed bars on blue grid paper
- Notebook — a handwritten look on lined paper
- Playful — thick, round bars with bold outlines
The style only changes the look; your tasks and dates stay the same.
Advanced options
Open Advanced options for more control:
- Text on the bars — the task name, the dates or the number of days. When the text does not fit inside a bar, it goes after it
- Columns next to the names — add Start, End and Days columns, like a project plan table
- Bar thickness and the first day of the week (Monday or Sunday)
- Your own background colour — the text and grid turn dark or light by themselves so they stay easy to read
- Turn the % done, the row stripes, the arrows, the weekend shading and the today line on or off
The settings
- Time scale — automatic picks days for short projects, then weeks, then months; or choose one yourself
- Colour by — one colour per phase, or a different colour for each task
- Image width and text size — for a slide, a report or a big screen
- Fullscreen — the chart alone on the whole screen, for a meeting; press Esc or × to go back
Everything happens on your device
The chart is drawn in your browser. Your tasks are not uploaded or saved anywhere, there is no sign-up and no watermark.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make a Gantt chart online for free?
Type each task on its own line as "Task | start date | length", for example "Research | 2026-11-02 | 5d". The chart appears as you type; download it as PNG or SVG.
Can tasks start after another task?
Yes. Write "after" and the task's name as the start, like "Wireframes | after Research | 4d". It starts the day after Research ends, and moves with it.
How do I add a milestone?
Write "milestone" as the length: "Launch | after Testing | milestone". It is drawn as a diamond on that day.
Can I make a Gantt chart without Excel?
Yes — that is what this tool is for. No spreadsheet, no formulas: type the tasks and download the picture for your slides or report.
Can I change how the Gantt chart looks?
Yes. Pick one of ten styles: Classic, Modern, Minimal, Corporate, Dark, Outline, Pastel, Blueprint, Notebook or Playful. Under Advanced options you can also choose your own background colour, the bar thickness and the text on the bars.
Can I show start and end dates next to the tasks?
Yes. Open Advanced options and choose "Columns next to the names". You get Start, End and, if you want, Days columns, like a project plan table.
Can I show the Gantt chart in a meeting?
Yes. Click Fullscreen: the chart fills the whole screen, ready for a projector or a TV. Press Esc or × to go back.
Can I edit the chart later?
Keep your list of tasks (copy it into a note). Paste it back here any time, change what you need, and download a new chart. The SVG file can also be edited in Illustrator, Inkscape or Figma.
Is my project data uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser, on your own device.
Good to know
- Hold the mouse over a bar to see its exact dates and length
- The PNG is saved at up to twice the size, so it stays sharp on slides
- Weekends are counted as normal days; leave room for them in the length if you only work weekdays
- To count working days between two dates, use the Business Days Calculator
