About Rotate Image

This free image rotator fixes a photo that is on its side or upside down. Drop the picture in, press Left or Right until it looks right, and download it.

You can also straighten a crooked photo with the angle slider — a horizon that leans, a document shot at a slant — down to half a degree.

It works on many images at once. Add a whole set, turn them the same way, and download them all in one ZIP.

Everything happens in your browser. Your photos are never uploaded.

Why photos come out sideways

A phone does not really turn the picture when you turn the phone. It saves the image the same way every time, and adds a small note — the EXIF orientation — that says "show this turned 90°".

Your phone reads that note. Many other programs do not: some websites, printers, older Windows tools and email apps. So the photo that looked fine on your phone shows up on its side.

This tool turns the real pixels. The saved image is the right way up everywhere, with no note that another program might ignore.

What each control does

  • Left 90° and Right 90° — a quarter turn. Width and height swap, as they should
  • 180° — upside down in one click
  • Flip horizontal — a mirror image, left to right. The one for selfies with backwards text
  • Flip vertical — top to bottom
  • Exact angle — the slider and the Degrees box turn the photo by any amount, for straightening
  • Save as — keep the original format, or save as PNG, JPG or WebP
  • Corner colour — a turn that is not a quarter turn leaves four empty corners. PNG and WebP keep them transparent. JPG cannot be transparent, so it fills them with this colour

The buttons always act on the picture as you see it, in any order.

Features

  • Rotate 90°, 180° or any angle
  • Straighten tilted photos to half a degree
  • Mirror and flip as well
  • Batch rotate — many images, one setting, one ZIP
  • Keeps the full resolution — the preview is small, the saved file is not
  • Transparent corners in PNG and WebP
  • No upload, no account, no watermark

What people use it for

  • Sideways phone photos for a website, a form or a print shop
  • Scanned pages that went through the scanner the wrong way
  • Straightening a horizon in a landscape photo
  • Product photos that must all face the same way
  • Documents photographed at an angle, before sending them

Good to know

  • The saved image has no EXIF data (camera, date, GPS). The picture is redrawn, and the notes are left behind. That also makes it safer to share
  • A turn by an odd angle makes the picture a little bigger, to fit the corners. Use Crop Image afterwards to cut them off
  • JPG is saved at high quality (92%). Each re-save of a JPG loses a tiny bit — keep the original if you plan more edits
  • GIF, BMP and AVIF are saved as PNG when Same as the original is chosen. An animated GIF keeps only its first frame

How to use it

  • Drop your image on the box, or click to choose one or more
  • Press Left or Right until the photo is the right way up
  • Use the Exact angle slider if it is a little tilted
  • Add Flip horizontal if the text is backwards
  • Click Download image — or Make a ZIP of all for a batch
