Reverse Video

Play a video backwards — or make a boomerang that goes forward and back.

About Reverse Video

This free video reverser plays your clip backwards. Water flows up, a jump lands before it starts, and a broken glass puts itself back together. Drop the video in, press Reverse the video, and download the result.

It can also make a boomerang: the clip plays forward and then backward, so it loops smoothly — the effect made popular by Instagram.

The sound can be reversed too, or removed. Everything runs in your browser, so your video is never uploaded.

Reverse or boomerang?

  • Reverse — the whole clip, played from the last frame to the first. The same length as the part you chose
  • Boomerang — the clip forward, then the same clip backward. Twice as long, and it loops without a jump, which makes it good for a short social post

Both are saved as a normal MP4 that plays on any phone, computer or website.

Why the clip range matters

Playing a video forward is easy: read a frame, write a frame. Playing it backwards is not. The very last frame must come out first, so the engine has to read and keep every frame of the clip before it can write anything.

Those frames are big — about 3 MB each at 1080p, and there are 30 of them every second. That is why the tool:

  • Starts with the first 15 seconds selected on a long video — change Start and End to pick the part you want
  • Offers a smaller Size — 720p is the default, and needs about half the memory of 1080p
  • Shows how much memory your choice needs, and warns you when it is likely too much

For short social clips — a few seconds to half a minute — this is not a problem.

Features

  • Reverse any video, or make a boomerang
  • Reversed sound, or no sound
  • Pick the part of the video to use
  • Output at original, 720p or 480p
  • Keeps portrait videos portrait — 720p means the short side is 720
  • Saves as MP4 with fast start
  • No upload, no account, no watermark

What people use it for

  • TikTok, Reels and Shorts effects — pouring a drink back into the glass
  • Boomerangs from a normal phone video
  • Magic tricks and "rewind" jokes
  • Checking how a move looks backwards in sport or dance
  • Music videos and art projects with backwards sound

Good to know

  • The first run downloads the video engine (about 30 MB). That happens once per visit
  • The progress bar may wait at the start — the engine is reading every frame before it writes the first one. That is normal
  • The picture is re-encoded, so there is a small loss in quality, the same as any video edit
  • The memory number assumes 30 frames per second. A 60 fps phone video needs twice as much — choose a shorter part
  • If a file will not open, convert it with the Video Converter first
  • A phone browser has less memory than a computer. Keep clips short there

How to use it

  • Drop your video on the box, or click to choose one
  • Choose Reverse or Boomerang
  • Choose what to do with the sound
  • Set Start and End to pick the part you want, and a Size
  • Press Reverse the video and wait
  • Play the result, then press Download video
