About removing audio from a video

This free tool removes the sound from a video and gives you back the same picture, silent. Drop the file, press one button, and download the muted copy.

It does not re-encode the picture. The video stream is copied across as it is and only the audio track is dropped, so:

• The quality is exactly the same as the original,
• The file finishes in seconds, not minutes, even for long videos,
• The file size goes down a little, because the sound is gone.

Everything happens in your browser using FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. Your video is never uploaded to a server.

Good to know

The muted file keeps its original format. An MP4 comes back as an MP4, a MOV comes back as a MOV.

The first time you use it, the tool downloads its video engine (about 30 MB). That happens once — after that it is instant.

Very large files (over about 1 GB) can run out of memory in the browser. If that happens, trim the video first with the Trim Video tool and mute the shorter clip.

How to use it
