About the raise calculator
A raise in percent is hard to feel. This calculator turns it into money: your new pay, and how much more per year, per month and per hour you get.
It has two modes:
- Raise in % — type your pay now and the raise, get the new pay
- New pay — type your pay now and the new pay, get the raise in percent
Your pay can be Yearly, Monthly or Hourly. Open More options and add the inflation per year to see the real raise — what the raise is worth after prices go up.

How to calculate a raise
New pay = pay now × (1 + raise ÷ 100)
When you open the page, the tool shows 60,000 a year and a 5% raise:
- New pay: 60,000 × 1.05 = 63,000 a year
- More per year: 3,000
- More per month: 3,000 ÷ 12 = 250
- More per hour: 3,000 ÷ 2,080 = 1.44 (40 hours a week, 52 weeks)
Raises on a 60,000 salary
| Raise | New pay | More per year | More per month | More per hour |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2% | 61,200 | 1,200 | 100 | 0.58 |
| 3% | 61,800 | 1,800 | 150 | 0.87 |
| 5% | 63,000 | 3,000 | 250 | 1.44 |
| 10% | 66,000 | 6,000 | 500 | 2.88 |
| 15% | 69,000 | 9,000 | 750 | 4.33 |
| 20% | 72,000 | 12,000 | 1,000 | 5.77 |
From old pay to new pay
In New pay mode the tool works backwards:
Raise % = (new pay ÷ pay now − 1) × 100
- 60,000 → 66,000 a year is a 10% raise
- 4,000 → 4,200 a month is a 5% raise, or 2,400 more a year
- 25 → 26 an hour is a 4% raise, or 2,080 more a year
Your real raise after inflation
If prices go up, part of your raise only keeps you level. The real raise is:
(1 + raise) ÷ (1 + inflation) − 1
| Raise | Inflation | Real raise |
|---|---|---|
| 5% | 3% | 1.94% |
| 3% | 3% | 0.00% |
| 2% | 3% | −0.97% |
A raise below inflation means you can buy less than before.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a 5% raise?
Multiply your pay by 1.05. 60,000 × 1.05 = 63,000, so you get 3,000 more a year.
How do I work out my raise percent?
Divide the new pay by the old pay, take away 1 and multiply by 100. 66,000 ÷ 60,000 = 1.10, so the raise is 10%.
How much more per hour is my raise?
The tool divides the extra yearly pay by 2,080 hours (40 hours a week for 52 weeks). A 3,000 raise is about 1.44 more per hour.
What is a real raise?
It is your raise after inflation. A 5% raise with 3% inflation is a real raise of only 1.94%.
Is the new pay before or after tax?
Before tax. A raise can move part of your pay into a higher tax band, so the extra money you take home can be smaller.
Is this financial advice?
No. It is a calculator for the numbers you type.
