About the hourly to salary calculator

  • Check the hours per week and days per week
  • Add any unpaid weeks off per year
  • Read your pay for every period

Hourly to yearly salary table

$50$2,000$4,000$8,667$104,000

Quick rule: for a full-time job, hourly pay × 2,000 is about the yearly salary. $20 an hour ≈ $40,000 a year.

How it is worked out

  • Yearly = hourly × hours per week × weeks worked
  • Monthly = yearly ÷ 12 (not × 4 — a month is about 4.33 weeks)
  • Every two weeks = yearly ÷ 26
  • Twice a month = yearly ÷ 24

Frequently asked questions

How much is $20 an hour per year?

At 40 hours a week for 52 weeks: $41,600 a year, or about $3,467 a month, before tax.

How much is $50,000 a year per hour?

$50,000 ÷ 2,080 hours = about $24.04 an hour for a full-time job. Choose Yearly and type 50000 to see every period.

Why is monthly pay not weekly pay × 4?

A year has 52 weeks but 12 months, so a month has about 4.33 weeks. Weekly × 4 would leave out four weeks of pay each year.

What is the difference between biweekly and semi-monthly?

Biweekly is every two weeks: 26 paychecks a year. Semi-monthly is twice a month, often on the 15th and the last day: 24 paychecks. Biweekly checks are a little smaller, but there are two more of them.

Does this include tax?

No. The results are gross pay — before income tax, social security and other deductions. Your take-home pay will be lower; how much depends on where you live.

What about paid vacation?

Paid holidays and vacation are paid like normal weeks, so leave unpaid weeks off at 0. Only enter weeks you are not paid for.
