The second Sunday of May is always between May 8 and May 14. Mothering Sunday is the fourth Sunday of Lent, so it follows Easter and can fall anywhere from March 1 to April 4.

Why is Mother's Day in March in the UK?
Mothering Sunday started as a church day in the middle of Lent, when people visited their "mother church". Over time it became a day to honor mothers, and it kept its place three weeks before Easter.
Who started Mother's Day in the US?
Anna Jarvis held the first Mother's Day service in 1908 in Grafton, West Virginia, to honor her own mother. In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson made the second Sunday of May a national day.
