About the GST calculator
GST (goods and services tax) is the tax on most things you buy in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Canada, India and other countries. Shop prices are often GST-inclusive. Invoices and quotes often show the price before GST.
This calculator works both ways. Choose Add GST to go from a price before GST to the full price. Choose Remove GST to find the GST inside a price you already paid.
Pick your Country and the Tax rate box fills in. For Canada you can choose federal GST or the HST of a province. For India you can choose the 5%, 18% or 40% slab. You can also type any rate yourself.

How to add GST
Multiply the price by 1 + rate. For 10% GST, multiply by 1.1.
When you open the page, the tool shows 100 at 10% (Australia):
- GST: 100 × 0.10 = 10
- Price with GST: 100 × 1.10 = 110
| Price before GST | GST at 10% | Price with GST |
|---|---|---|
| 10 | 1 | 11 |
| 50 | 5 | 55 |
| 100 | 10 | 110 |
| 500 | 50 | 550 |
| 1,000 | 100 | 1,100 |
| 5,000 | 500 | 5,500 |
How to remove GST
Divide the GST-inclusive price by 1 + rate. Do not just take 10% off.
- Australia (10%): 110 ÷ 1.10 = 100, so the GST was 10
- New Zealand (15%): 115 ÷ 1.15 = 100, so the GST was 15
A quick rule: at 10%, the GST inside a price is 1/11 of it. At 15%, it is 3/23 of it. Choose Remove GST and the tool does the math.

Rates change. Some goods have a lower rate or no GST at all. In Canada, some provinces add their own sales tax on top of the 5% GST. Check the rate for your product with your tax office.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate GST in Australia?
Multiply the price before GST by 0.1 to get the GST. Multiply by 1.1 to get the full price. 250 + 10% GST = 275.
How do I work out the GST in a GST-inclusive price?
Divide the price by 11 (for 10% GST). For a 275 bill, the GST is 275 ÷ 11 = 25, and the price before GST is 250.
How do I remove 15% GST in New Zealand?
Divide the price by 1.15. For 230, that gives 200 before GST, and the GST is 30.
What is HST in Canada?
HST is one tax that joins the 5% federal GST and a provincial part. The tool lists the HST rates for Ontario and the Atlantic provinces. Other provinces use the 5% GST, and some add a separate provincial tax.
Is this tax advice?
No. It is a calculator. The rate for your product and your business rules come from your tax office.
