About the Ambient Sound Mixer
This page is an ambient noise generator where you make your own background sound. Twelve sounds are ready: three noise colours, light and heavy rain, thunder, wind, ocean waves, a campfire, a café murmur, a fan and night crickets. Each one has its own on/off button and its own volume slider. Turn on two or three, balance them, and press Play.
Everything is made live in your browser. There are no audio files and nothing to download, so it starts at once and works with a slow connection once the page has opened.
Features

Rain and café sounds, and other mixes to try
Mixing is the fun part. Small changes in volume change the whole mood. These are good places to start:
| Mix | Sounds | Feels like |
|---|---|---|
| Rainy café | light rain 45, café 40 | a coffee shop on a wet day |
| Cabin in the storm | heavy rain, wind, thunder, campfire | a warm room, a rough night outside |
| Beach | waves 65, wind 22 | a quiet shore |
| Focus | brown noise 55, fan 30 | a soft, deep wall of sound |
| Sleep | light rain 40, wind 18 | a calm, steady night |
The café sound is a soft murmur of voices, not a real recording. You hear the mood of a busy room, but you cannot pick out any words. This is on purpose: words would pull your attention away.
Background noise for studying and work
Many people read and write better with a steady sound in the background. A good study mix has no sudden sounds and no words. Brown noise, a fan, light rain and a quiet café murmur all work well. Keep thunder and campfire crackles for relaxing, because the pops can pull your eyes off the page.
Sleep sounds with a timer
For bedtime, try the Sleep preset and set the timer to 30 or 60 minutes. In the last minute the sound fades out slowly, so it does not stop with a jump. The time left is shown under the timer.
Use a low volume and put the speaker a little away from your head. This page is for relaxing and covering noise. It is not a medical tool, and it does not treat any sleep problem. If you have trouble sleeping often, talk to a doctor.
Frequently asked questions
What is an ambient sound mixer?
It is a tool that plays several background sounds at the same time, each with its own volume. You make a mix that suits you, for example rain plus a café, instead of listening to one fixed recording.
Can I mix rain and café sounds?
Yes. Tap Rainy café to get that mix at once, then change the two sliders until it feels right. You can add more sounds, such as a soft fan or wind.
Does the sleep timer really fade out?
Yes. In the last minute the volume goes down smoothly to zero, and then the sound stops. You can see the time left under the timer. If you pause, the timer waits for you.
Will it keep playing when I switch tabs or lock my phone?
In another tab, yes. Keep the page open and the sound goes on. Many phones also show Play and Pause on the lock screen. Some phones stop web sound when the screen locks. If that happens, keep the screen on and turn it dark, or plug the phone in.
Why does it sound different from a real recording?
All sounds are made by your browser from noise and simple filters. They are steady and never repeat in a way you can hear, but they are not real rain or real people. For many people this is a plus, because nothing in the sound has a meaning.
Are my saved mixes private?
Yes. They are stored only in this browser on this device. Clearing your browser data removes them. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Good to know
- Six sounds at once is fine. The page keeps the total level under control, so the mix does not clip
- Closing the page stops the sound. Switching tabs does not
- Thunder comes now and then, not all the time. Wait a few seconds after turning it on
- This page is for relaxing and covering noise. It makes no health claims
