The first line is the top seed. If the number is not 4, 8, 16, 32 or 64, the top seeds get a free pass (a bye) in round 1.

About the tournament bracket maker

A knockout tournament (single elimination) is the simplest way to find a winner: teams play in pairs, the winner goes on, the loser is out, until one champion is left. The bracket is the chart that shows every game and every round.

Type the teams or players, and the bracket is drawn for you — seeded so the best teams meet as late as possible, with byes worked out when the number of teams is not 4, 8, 16, 32 or 64. Then click the winners as the games are played, and the bracket fills in all the way to the champion.

How to use it

  • Type the teams or players, one per line — the best first, if you want seeding
  • Or press Shuffle the order for a random draw
  • Give the tournament a title, pick a style and choose the layout
  • As games are played, click the winner's name — it moves to the next round
  • Click the same name again to undo, or press Clear the results to start over
  • Click Download PNG or Download SVG to share or print the bracket
  • Click Fullscreen to show the bracket on a TV or a projector during the event — you can still click the winners there

Eight styles and two layouts

  • Classic — clean boxes in the colour you choose
  • Sports — a dark stadium look with gold winners and bold capital names
  • Neon — glowing lines on black, made for esports and gaming nights
  • Chalkboard — chalk lines on a green board in a wooden frame, for the classroom
  • Minimal — just names on lines, nothing else
  • Print — black on white with square boxes; saves ink and is easy to fill in by hand
  • Playful — round boxes and warm colours for kids' tournaments
  • Trophy — cream paper, gold lines and a serif font, like a framed honours board

Layout: *Left to right* runs from the first round to the champion on the right. *Both sides meet in the middle* splits the bracket in two halves that play towards the final in the centre — the famous "March Madness" look, and half as tall.

The style and layout only change the look; your teams and results stay the same.

Seeds and byes

  • Seeding — the first name in the list is seed 1, the second seed 2, and so on. They are placed the standard way (1 plays the last seed, 2 plays the second-last…), so seeds 1 and 2 can only meet in the final
  • Byes — a bracket needs 4, 8, 16, 32 or 64 places. With 6 teams the bracket has 8 places, so 2 places are empty: seeds 1 and 2 get a bye and go straight to the next round
  • No seeding? Press Shuffle the order — the list is mixed up at random, and the order is then the draw

Ideas

  • Sports days and school leagues — football, basketball, table tennis, chess
  • Office and family games — a ping-pong cup, a quiz, a board-game night
  • Esports and gaming nights — FIFA, Mario Kart, Smash
  • Fun votes — "best pizza topping", "best movie of the year": let people vote on each pair and click the winner

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a tournament bracket?

Type the teams, one per line, and the bracket appears. Click a team in a game to make it the winner; it moves into the next round. Download the bracket as PNG or SVG.

What happens if I don't have 8 or 16 teams?

The bracket uses the next size up (for example 8 places for 6 teams) and gives the top seeds a bye — they go through round 1 without playing.

How does seeding work?

The order of your list is the seeding: line 1 is the top seed. The top seeds are spread out so they do not meet early. For a random draw, press "Shuffle the order".

Will my results be saved?

Yes, on this device: open the page again with the same list of teams and the winners you clicked are still there. Download a PNG to share the bracket with others.

Can I show the bracket on a TV during the tournament?

Yes. Click Fullscreen and the bracket fills the whole screen. You can keep clicking winners while it is on the screen, so everyone sees the results right away. Press Esc or × to go back.

How many teams can I use?

From 2 up to 64 teams or players.

Good to know

  • Changing a result in an early round clears the later games that depended on it
  • The clickable areas are only on the page — the downloaded PNG and SVG are clean pictures
  • For a tall bracket (32 or 64 teams), lower the text size
