About making a screenshot look good

A raw screenshot is a rectangle with hard edges that sits badly on a page. Put it in a blog post, a slide, a store listing or a social post and it looks like exactly what it is: something pasted in.

The fix is the one every design-aware team already does by hand — a coloured background, some breathing room, rounded corners and a soft shadow so the picture sits *on* the page rather than being stuck to it.

That takes about four seconds here. Paste the screenshot, pick a background, download it.

Just paste it

Press Ctrl+V (⌘V on a Mac) anywhere on this page and the screenshot in your clipboard appears, ready.

That is the point of the tool. The moment that matters is right after you press PrintScreen — asking you to save a file first and then find it again puts a detour in the one step you actually came for. Dragging a file in and clicking to browse both work too.

The four things that matter

• Background — nine ready-made choices: saturated gradients for social, quieter ones for slides, plain white for documentation, and a transparent option for dropping the result onto something else. Or tick Pick my own colours and choose both ends of the gradient.
• Padding — how much background shows around the screenshot. It is measured as a share of the picture, so a wide screenshot and a tall one come back looking equally framed.
• Rounded corners — a small radius reads as modern; a large one reads as an app icon. Zero keeps the original hard edges.
• Shadow — how far the screenshot lifts off the background. A little goes a long way; a heavy shadow looks dated.

Shapes that fit where it's going

Leave Shape on *Follow the screenshot* and the result keeps the proportions you started with.

Or pick the shape of the place it is going, and the background is extended to fit without stretching or cropping the screenshot itself:

• 16:9 — slides, video thumbnails, a presentation cover
• 1:1 — a square social post
• 4:5 — a portrait social post, which takes up more of a phone screen
• 1200×630 — the link preview card, the picture that shows when someone shares your page

Copy or download

Download PNG saves the picture. Copy image puts it straight on your clipboard, so you can paste it into the document, the slide or the post you already have open — no file, no downloads folder, no cleanup afterwards.

If you chose the transparent background, the PNG keeps that transparency, so it can sit on whatever colour is underneath it.

Nothing is uploaded

The whole thing is one canvas in your browser. Your screenshot is never sent to a server — which matters, because screenshots are full of things you did not mean to publish: email addresses, customer names, internal dashboards, file paths, browser tabs.

It also means there is no size limit and no waiting. A 4K screenshot is as fast as a small one.

Good to know

• The screenshot itself is never resized or re-compressed — only the background around it is added, so the pixels stay as sharp as they came
• Pasting works on Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari; Copy image needs a recent Chrome or Edge, and the Download button always works
• A transparent background is only kept by PNG, which is what this saves
• To crop the screenshot first, use Crop Image
• To hide something sensitive in it, use Blur Part of an Image
• To make the file smaller afterwards, use Image Compressor

How to use it

• Press Ctrl+V to paste a screenshot, or click the box to choose a file
• Pick a background, or tick Pick my own colours
• Adjust padding, rounded corners and shadow until it looks right
• Choose a shape if it is going somewhere with a fixed size
• Press Download PNG, or Copy image to paste it straight where it is going
