Every puzzle has one solution

A real sudoku has exactly one correct answer. If a puzzle can be finished in two ways, you reach a point where you have to guess — and that is not a fair puzzle.

So every puzzle here is checked. The tool starts from a full, correct grid and takes numbers away one by one. After each one, it solves the puzzle to make sure there is still only one answer. If taking a number away would allow a second answer, the number stays.

The levels

The level sets how many numbers are given at the start:

• Easy — about 39 numbers. Good for beginners and children
• Medium — about 31
• Hard — about 28
• Very hard — about 25

Fewer numbers usually means a harder puzzle, but not always — two puzzles at the same level can feel a little different. On the easier levels the given numbers sit in a symmetric pattern, like in printed puzzle books.

Large print or many per page

• 1 per page — very large print, easy on the eyes
• 2 per page — large
• 4 per page — the usual size of a newspaper puzzle
• 6 per page — a compact puzzle book

Up to 60 puzzles in one PDF. The solutions are printed smaller, up to six to a page, with the given numbers in black and the answers in blue.

How to play

Fill the grid so that every row, every column and every 3 × 3 box contains the numbers 1 to 9, each exactly once. The numbers already given cannot change.
