Connect your controller and press any button
A USB cable or Bluetooth both work. The browser only shows a controller after you press one of its buttons.Left stick
X 0.00 Y 0.00
Let go of the stick for 2 seconds to check for drift.
Right stick
X 0.00 Y 0.00
Let go of the stick for 2 seconds to check for drift.
Vibration test
Connect a controller to test vibration.
All buttons
Raw values (every button and axis)
No controller yet.
Button names: A / ✕ is the bottom face button, B / ○ the right one, X / □ the left one and Y / △ the top one. On a Switch Pro controller the letters are swapped (B is at the bottom). Stick drift: let go of both sticks — a resting value above 0.10 means possible drift.
About the gamepad tester
Does a button on your controller not work? Does your character walk by itself in a game? This gamepad tester shows everything your controller sends to the computer, live, in your browser.
It works with Xbox controllers (One, Series X|S, 360), PlayStation controllers (PS5 DualSense, PS4 DualShock 4), the Nintendo Switch Pro controller and most USB or Bluetooth gamepads and joysticks. There is nothing to install.
Each button lights up while you press it and stays light green once it has worked.
Features
- Every button — the 17 standard buttons light up on a drawn controller, with a press counter for each
- Analog values — triggers and other pressure buttons show how far they are pressed, from 0 to 100 %
- Stick drift check — shows how far each stick rests from the centre and warns above 0.10
- Stick trail — draws where the stick has been, so you can test the full outer circle
- Vibration test — try the weak motor, the strong motor or both, where the browser allows it
- Several controllers — pick Controller 1, 2 and more, and see each one's name and layout
- Raw values — every axis and every extra button, also the ones outside the standard layout
How to use it
- Plug in the controller with a USB cable, or pair it with Bluetooth
- Press any button — the browser now shows the controller
- Press every button one by one and watch it light up
- Let go of both sticks for 2 seconds and read the drift check
- Roll each stick slowly around its edge until "Full circle" is near 100 %
- Pull both triggers all the way and check that they reach 100 %
- Try the vibration buttons, then press Reset to test again
What is stick drift?
Stick drift means a stick sends a movement while nobody touches it. In a game, the camera turns slowly or your player walks on their own. It is the most common fault of game controllers.
Dust and wear can make the sensors inside a stick read a little off the centre. The tester shows the resting value from 0 (perfect centre) to 1 (the edge).
| Resting value | What it means |
|---|---|
| 0.00 – 0.05 | Healthy stick |
| 0.05 – 0.10 | Small offset, games usually hide it |
| above 0.10 | Possible stick drift |
Games use a dead zone: a small area around the centre where movement is ignored. Most dead zones are about 0.1 to 0.2. A stick that rests above 0.10 can get past a small dead zone, and then you see the drift in the game. The green ring on each stick shows the 0.10 limit.
What can help with drift
There is no sure fix, but these steps help some controllers:
- Roll the stick around its edge many times — it can move dust away
- Clean around the base of the stick with a little compressed air
- Update the controller (Xbox Accessories app, PlayStation console update)
- Use the calibration of your console, PC or Steam, if it has one
- Set a larger dead zone in the game's settings
If the warning stays after this, the stick module is worn. A repair or a new controller is the real fix. Check your warranty first — while it lasts, many brands repair drift for free.
Which browsers work
| Browser | Buttons and sticks | Vibration |
|---|---|---|
| Chrome, Edge | Yes | Yes, for most pads |
| Firefox | Yes | Mostly no |
| Safari | Yes | Mostly no |
Wired and Bluetooth controllers both work. Chrome and Edge give the best results.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the tester not see my controller?
Press a button. For privacy, browsers only show a controller after you press one of its buttons on this page. If it still does not show, unplug it and plug it in again, or try another USB cable — some cables only charge. If Steam is open, close it and try again — it can take over the controller.
How do I test a PS5 or PS4 controller?
Connect it with a USB cable or Bluetooth and press the PS button or any other button. ✕, ○, □ and △ are the bottom, right, left and top buttons. The touchpad click may show as an extra button in the raw values.
How do I test a Switch Pro controller?
Pair it with Bluetooth or plug it in with USB, then press a button. The letters on a Switch controller are swapped: its B is the bottom button and its A is the right one. The tester names buttons by their place, so this is normal.
What does "Full circle" mean?
It shows how much of the outer edge the stick has reached. Roll the stick slowly around the edge. A healthy stick reaches close to 100 %. If one side stays low, the stick cannot move all the way in that direction.
Why does the vibration test not work?
Only some browsers let a web page start the motors. Chrome and Edge can do it for most Xbox and PlayStation controllers; Firefox and Safari mostly cannot. The tester tells you when it is not possible.
Good to know
- Nothing is recorded or sent anywhere — the test runs only in your browser
- On the sticks, up is −1 and down is 1, as the Gamepad API reports it
- Press Reset to clear all counters, trails and drift checks
