Zip and Unzip Files

Pack files into a ZIP, or open a ZIP and take the files out — right in your browser.

100% private — runs entirely in your browser. Your data is processed on your device and never sent to the internet.

Click to choose files or drop them here

Any files, any number — they are packed on your device and never uploaded

You can add files from different folders. Choose some, then click again for the next folder — new files are added to the list, never replace it.

Everything is packed and unpacked inside your browser — no file is sent anywhere. Very large archives are limited by your device memory, not by an upload size.

About Zip and Unzip Files

This free tool does both halves of the job: it makes a ZIP file from any files you choose, and it opens a ZIP file so you can look inside and save the files back out.

On Windows this is *Send to → Compressed (zipped) folder* and *Extract All*. In PowerShell it is Compress-Archive and Expand-Archive. On a phone or a work computer where you cannot install WinRAR or 7-Zip, there is often no way to do it at all. This page does it with nothing installed — the packing and unpacking happen inside your browser, so no file is ever uploaded and there is no upload size limit.

What you can do with it

  • Zip several files into one so you can email or upload them together
  • Collect files from different folders — pick a few, then pick a few more; the list keeps growing
  • Zip a whole folder and keep the folder structure inside the archive
  • Open a ZIP someone sent you and see the file names, sizes and dates before you save anything
  • Take one file out of a big ZIP without unpacking the rest
  • Unzip on a phone or tablet, where there is often no built-in ZIP app
  • Unzip on a locked-down work laptop where you cannot install software

Features

  • Two tools in one — make a ZIP, or open a ZIP
  • Drag and drop, or click to choose files — add as many as you like
  • Add a whole folder with one button; sub-folders are kept
  • Files from many folders in one ZIP — click again for each folder, nothing is replaced
  • Two files with the same name? The second becomes report (2).pdf, so neither is lost
  • Choose the compression from none (fastest) to maximum (smallest)
  • See how much space you saved when the ZIP is built
  • Browse inside a ZIP — name, size and date for every file
  • Save one file, or all of them at once
  • You name the ZIP — the box starts at archive-AppAndTools.zip and you can change or delete any part of it, including -AppAndTools
  • Files you take *out* of a ZIP keep their original names, so nothing you extract is renamed
  • 100% in your browser — no upload, no account, no watermark

Good to know

  • Only .zip is supported. RAR and 7z use different formats and cannot be opened here.
  • A password-protected ZIP can be listed, but the files inside cannot be read without the password.
  • Very large archives are limited by your device memory, not by a server limit. On a phone, keep it to a few hundred megabytes.

How to use it

  • To make a ZIP: stay on the Make a ZIP tab and drop your files in, or press Add files from another folder
  • Need files from more than one folder? Just click again for each folder — the new files are added to the list. Or press Add a whole folder to take everything in one go
  • Check the list and remove anything you do not want with the ×
  • Name the ZIP. The box already says archive-AppAndTools.zip — replace it with whatever you want. If you leave off .zip it is added for you
  • Press Create the ZIP, then Download ZIP
  • To open a ZIP: switch to the Open a ZIP tab and drop your .zip file in
  • Look at the list — every file inside is shown with its size and date
  • Press Save next to any file to keep just that one, or press Prepare all files to get everything in one go
