Reduce the file size of an MP4, WebM or MOV video in your browser — pick a quality and see the savings.

About this video compressor

This free video compressor shrinks the file size of an MP4, WebM or MOV video so it's easier to share by email, upload to a website, or send in a chat. Pick a quality, optionally lower the resolution, and it re-encodes the video to a smaller MP4 (H.264) — showing you exactly how much you saved.

Everything runs on a real video engine entirely in your browser, so your video is never uploaded to a server. Because the work happens in a background worker, you can switch to other tabs while it compresses — just keep this tab open.

How it makes videos smaller

  • Quality — *High* keeps it looking great with modest savings; *Balanced* is the sweet spot for most videos; *Smallest* squeezes hardest for the tiniest file.
  • Resolution — dropping a 4K or 1080p clip to 720p or 480p can cut the size dramatically, which is perfect for phone screens and messaging apps.
  • The result is a standard MP4 (H.264) that plays almost everywhere.

Good to know

  • It re-encodes the video, so it's best for short clips and can take a little while
  • The first run downloads a one-time ~30 MB engine (then it's cached); a connection is needed once
  • Already-compressed videos may not shrink much — try a lower quality or resolution
  • Everything is processed on your device — nothing is uploaded

Common uses

  • Make a video small enough to email or attach in a chat
  • Shrink a screen recording or phone clip before uploading it to a website
  • Save space by compressing videos you want to keep or archive
  • Reduce a clip to fit a platform's file-size limit

How to use it

  • Upload your video — click the upload area or drag and drop an MP4, WebM or MOV file
  • Choose a quality — start with *Balanced*, and lower the resolution if you need a smaller file
  • Compress — click Compress video; you can switch tabs while it works
  • Download — check the size saved, preview the result, and save your smaller MP4
