About the Ramadan countdown
How many days until Ramadan? This page shows it live: days, hours, minutes and seconds until the first day of fasting, on the clock of your own device. Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin on the evening of Sunday, February 7, 2027, with the first fast on Monday, February 8.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, a month of fasting from dawn to sunset, prayer and giving. The Islamic calendar follows the moon, so Ramadan comes about 11 days earlier every year. You can also count down to Eid al-Fitr, the festival at the end of the month. During Ramadan, the board shows which day of Ramadan it is.

When is Ramadan?
The dates below come from the Umm al-Qura calendar, the calendar Saudi Arabia uses. In many countries the month starts when the new crescent moon is seen, so Ramadan and Eid can begin one day later where you live. Your local mosque or Islamic center announces the final date.
| Year | First fast | Eid al-Fitr | Days |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1447 AH | Wed, Feb 18, 2026 | Fri, Mar 20, 2026 | 30 |

Ramadan begins at sunset on the evening before the first fast — for example on Sunday evening, February 7, 2027.
Look at 2030: Ramadan starts twice in one year, in January and again in late December. That happens about every 33 years, because the Islamic year is about 354 days long. This countdown follows the Islamic year, so it always points to the next Ramadan.
Why does Ramadan start in the evening?
In the Islamic calendar a day begins at sunset, not at midnight. So Ramadan begins on the evening before the first fast: that night people pray the first Taraweeh prayer, and the next morning, before dawn, they eat suhoor and begin the fast. The fast ends each day at sunset with iftar. The countdown counts to the start of the first day of fasting on your clock (midnight), and the line under it tells you the evening when the month begins.
Six styles
- Ramadan night — a deep blue sky with gold stars
- Golden lantern — warm lantern light on a dark night
- Emerald and gold — rich green with a fine gold pattern
- Mosaic — teal tiles with gold dots, like a tiled courtyard
- Iftar sunset — the purple and orange sky at the time of iftar
- Minimal — plain and clean, in your page's light or dark colors

Frequently asked questions
How many days until Ramadan?
The big numbers at the top of this page show it, live, on your own clock. By default they count to the first day of fasting of the next Ramadan.
When is Ramadan 2027?
Ramadan 2027 (1448 AH) is expected to begin on the evening of Sunday, February 7, 2027. The first day of fasting is expected on Monday, February 8, and Eid al-Fitr on Tuesday, March 9, 2027. Where the start depends on seeing the moon, each date can be one day later.
Why are the dates "expected"?
The Islamic month begins with the new crescent moon. Some countries use a calculated calendar (like Umm al-Qura), and others wait until the moon is seen. Clouds or the moon's position can push the start back by one day, so the exact date is only sure a day or so before.
Why is Ramadan earlier every year?
The Islamic calendar has 12 months of 29 or 30 days, about 354 days in all. That is about 11 days shorter than the everyday calendar, so Ramadan moves through all the seasons in about 33 years.
How long is Ramadan?
Ramadan lasts 29 or 30 days, until the new moon of the next month, Shawwal. Eid al-Fitr is on the first day of Shawwal.
When is Eid al-Fitr 2027?
Eid al-Fitr 2027 is expected on Tuesday, March 9, 2027 (or March 10 where the moon must be seen). Choose "Eid al-Fitr" under Count down to, and the board counts to it.
