Layouts that match your photos

Add your pictures first, and the tool shows you only the layouts that hold exactly that many. Three photos gets you the three-photo arrangements; six gets you the six-photo ones. No empty slots to fill, and no photo quietly left out.

Each layout is shown as a small diagram of itself — click the shape you want rather than picking a name out of a dropdown. There are 37 arrangements covering 1 to 12 photos, and most counts offer several: a plain grid, a row, a stack, and a "one big, the rest small" version for when one picture deserves more room.

Sized for where it is going

Getting the shape wrong is what ruins a collage: post a square into a story slot and it floats in the middle with grey bars, post a wide one to Instagram and the sides get cropped off.

So instead of guessing, pick the platform. The canvas resizes to the dimensions that platform actually wants, and the layout re-flows to match — a 2 × 2 grid stays a 2 × 2 grid whether it is a square post or a tall story.

A few of these are the same shape underneath — a 9:16 story is a story wherever you post it — but they are listed by name so you can find yours without working out which generic shape matches. Platforms do adjust these sizes occasionally, so check if a post looks cropped.

Moving a photo to a different slot

Getting the right picture into the big slot is the fiddly part of any collage, so there are two ways to do it.

Drag one slot onto another in the collage itself and the two photos change places. Hovering a slot outlines it, the slot you are holding stays highlighted, and the two slide past each other as they swap — so you can see the move happen rather than waiting to find out whether it worked.

On a phone, tap a slot and then tap where you want it. Same result, no dragging required — ordinary drag-and-drop does not work on touchscreens, so this path is built in rather than bolted on.

Why the photos are not squashed

Every photo is drawn to fill its slot and trimmed from the centre, rather than stretched to fit.

That matters: stretching a portrait photo into a wide slot makes faces look wrong in a way people notice immediately, even if they cannot say why. Trimming instead keeps everyone the right shape, and centring the trim keeps the subject in frame in almost every case.
