About converting MP4 to MP3
An MP4 is a video file that carries a sound track inside it. Converting MP4 to MP3 throws the picture away and keeps the sound.
That is what you want when the picture was never the point: a lecture you want on your phone, a podcast someone sent as a video, a song from a recording of a gig, an interview to type up, a sermon, a language lesson, a guitar part you played into a camera.
The MP3 that comes out is a normal audio file. It plays in a car, on an old MP3 player, in a phone, in any music app.
Everything happens on your device
Most MP4-to-MP3 sites ask you to upload the video, wait in a queue, and trust them with it. This one does not.
The converter is a real audio engine (ffmpeg) compiled to WebAssembly and run inside your browser. Your video is never sent anywhere:
- Private — a recording of a meeting, a lesson or a family video stays yours
- No upload wait — a 2 GB file starts immediately, because nothing is being sent
- No file size limit from an upload cap
- No queue, no sign-up, no watermark
The engine is about 30 MB and downloads once, the first time you use it. Your browser then keeps it, so every conversion after that starts straight away — even with no connection.

Choosing the bitrate
The bitrate decides how much detail the MP3 keeps, and how big the file is:
- 320 kbps — best quality. Use it for music.
- 192 kbps — the middle ground, and the default. Fine for almost everything.
- 128 kbps — half the size of 320. Plenty for speech: a lecture, a podcast, an interview.
A higher bitrate cannot add quality the video did not have. If the MP4's sound was already poor, 320 kbps only makes a bigger file of the same poor sound.
MP3, M4A or WAV
MP3 is the one that plays everywhere, including in old car stereos and cheap players. It is the safe answer and the reason you are here.
M4A (AAC) sounds slightly better than MP3 at the same file size, and is what Apple devices prefer. Choose it if everything that will play the file is modern.
WAV is uncompressed — perfect quality, very large files. Choose it only if you are going to edit the audio afterwards.

Good to know
- It also converts WebM, MOV and MKV, not just MP4 — the button still says MP3
- An MP4 with no sound track cannot produce an MP3; the tool will say so
- A silent MP3 usually means the video really is silent — check by playing the video above the button
- Very long videos (over an hour) work, but take a while and use a lot of memory; a phone may struggle where a computer will not

Is it free, and is there a watermark?
It is free, there is no sign-up, and audio cannot be watermarked — nothing is added to your MP3.
Is my video uploaded?
No. The conversion runs on your own device, inside this page. The file never reaches a server.
Why does the first conversion take longer?
The converter downloads once (about 30 MB) and is then cached by your browser. The second conversion starts immediately.
Can I convert a YouTube link?
No. This tool converts a video file you already have on your device.
