Bulk convert a list
Paste many values — one per line, or separated by commas or spaces. A column copied from Excel works too. They are converted with the units chosen above.
How to convert kcal to kJ
One kilocalorie is 4.184 kilojoules. To turn kcal into kJ, multiply by 4.184 (or by 4.2 for a quick answer).
Formula: kJ = kcal × 4.184
Example: 500 kcal × 4.184 = 2,092 kJ
The "Calories" on a food label are kilocalories. So 500 Calories on a label is also 2,092 kJ.
Features
- Instant answer — type kcal in the From box and see the kJ as you type
- Formula line — under the boxes, see what 1 unit is in the other unit, both ways
- Swap (⇄) — turn kJ back into kcal in one click, with no rounding error
- kcal, not small calories — the Kilocalorie unit is the food "Calorie"; pick Calorie only for the small calorie
- Every unit in the list — kcal, kJ, calories, joules, Wh, kWh and BTU; or pick another Category, like length, weight or temperature
- Bulk convert a list — paste many kcal values, one per line or a column from Excel; each line keeps its place, and a line like "Box A 12.5" converts its number
- Three ways to show the list — Results only, Value and result or CSV (for Excel), with 0 to 6 Decimal places; then Copy results or Download CSV
- Private — it all runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded

Frequently asked questions
How many kJ is 1 kcal?
1 kilocalorie is 4.184 kilojoules.
Are kcal and Calories the same?
Yes. The "Calorie" with a capital C on food labels is one kilocalorie. A small "calorie" (cal) is 1,000 times smaller: 1 kcal = 1,000 cal.
How do I convert kcal to kJ in my head?
Multiply by 4, then add a little: 500 kcal → 2,000 + 100 = about 2,100 kJ (exact: 2,092).
Can I convert many kcal values at once?
Yes. Paste them under Bulk convert a list — one per line, or a column from Excel — and all of them are converted together. Copy the results or download them as a CSV file.
Is my data sent anywhere?
No. The conversion runs in your browser, on your own device.
