JPG, PNG or WebP — it stays on your devicePortrait mode for any photo
Phones blur the background of a portrait so the person stands out. This tool does the same for any photo you already have — an old picture, a photo from a camera without portrait mode, or a product shot.
A small AI model finds the person (or the object in front) and keeps it sharp, while the background is blurred. It works for people, pets and most objects, and it all happens in your browser — your photo is never uploaded.
Six background effects
- Blur — the classic portrait-mode look; move Strength for a light or a creamy blur
- Black & white — a "colour pop": the person in colour, the background in grey
- Blur + B&W — both together, for a striking profile picture
- Dim — a darker background that makes the subject glow, good for product photos
- Pixelate — blocky squares, to hide what is behind you (a messy room, a screen, a number plate)
- Sepia — a warm, old-photo tone behind a colour subject
Clean edges, no halo
Simple blur tools blur the whole picture and paste the person back, which leaves a blurry glow of their colours around them. Here the person is first cut out and the gap is filled from the background around it, so the blur stays clean right up to the edge. Edge softness decides how gently the sharp part fades into the blur.
Ideas
- A professional profile picture for LinkedIn, a CV or a team page
- Product photos that stand out from a busy table or shelf
- Hide a messy room or private details behind you before you share a photo
- Blur a face instead: tick *Blur the person instead* in Advanced options to keep the place and hide who is in it
How to use it
- Click the box and choose a photo, or drop or paste it
- Wait a moment while the AI finds the person (the first time it loads a 4.5 MB model)
- Pick an effect, then set the strength and the edge softness
- Press and hold Hold to see the original to compare
- Choose JPG or PNG and click Download
Frequently asked questions
How do I blur the background of a photo?
Choose the photo; the tool finds the person and blurs everything behind them at once. Move Strength for more or less blur, then click Download.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The AI model runs in your browser, on your own device. The photo never leaves it.
Does it work for pets and objects?
Usually, yes. The model looks for the main subject in front, so a dog, a car or a product works as well as a person. If part of it gets blurred, lower Subject cut-off in Advanced options.
Can I blur a face instead of the background?
Yes. Open Advanced options and tick Blur the person instead. The background stays sharp and the person is blurred or pixelated.
How big is the photo I get back?
Up to 2048 pixels on the long side — plenty for social media, profile pictures and screens.
Good to know
- The first photo takes a few seconds longer, while the AI model downloads; after that it is cached
- Photos with a clear person in front give the cleanest result; very busy or very dark photos are harder
- To remove the background completely, use the Background Remover
